Note from Andy… I wrote what you see below yesterday and started this blog today.
The idea formulated yesterday with a word, fastidiousness. Looking up a definition I saw where this term was often viewed negatively as in bordering on obsessive/compulsive behavior. Nobody needs or wants that but… hmmmm Order from Chaos. Interesting. If you look where I’ve spent time, it can often look chaotic. I am not, a naturally tidy person. More to the point, I tend to be a slob. But this does not always need to be. At my last salaried job, I was disorderly and my work area showed it. Then I decided to reorganize and stay organized. And I did.
Now it is time to do it again. I am greatly inspired by James Clear, author of Atomic Habits. I see my efforts as developing the particular habit of neatness, or orderliness. Not compulsive but diligent. That is the phrase the keeps ringing in my head. Or should that be: Diligent, not compulsive. I like version two better, putting the positive first. It is less wordy as well. 🙂
I will start a blog from beginning to whenever. The blog posts will form the basis for a book. I’ve also thought about a worksheet. Will one help me? It might. If it doesn’t, why offer it to anyone else? Maybe because some things work better with certain people.
So what is my desired outcome? I want to be more organized so I can spend more time doing things than looking for all I need to do something. I also find being more organized more peaceful.
I will organize the shop, my office, and my personal spaces so I’ll know what I have and where to find it. I’ll keep work areas neat and clean.
In addition to these things I have in mind some specific tasks I need to accomplish.
